The Distribution Code contains procedures for the management of day to day technical situations on the Distribution Networks, considering a wide range of operational conditions likely to be encountered under both normal and abnormal conditions.

Distribution Code comprises 5 parts and appendices as depicted in the above diagram



Part 1: General Conditions (GC)

Part 1 comprises 5 sections which are listed below. Some of the topics discussed in this part are “Role of The Distribution Companies”, “Definitions, Interpretation, Derogations, Data and Notices, Distribution Code Review Panel, Distribution Code Disputes and Conditions Precedent”.It comprises 4 sections (Sections 1 to 4) listed below..

Part 2: Distribution, Planning and Connection Code (DPCC)

Part 2 has 4 sections which are listed below. A few of the topics covered are “Scope”, “Distribution Planning Responsibility”, “Submission, Consolidation and Maintenance of Planning Data”, “Load Forecast”, “Distribution Planning”, “System Studies”, “Processing of Applications”, “Connection Agreements”, “Commissioning of Equipment and Physical Connection to the Distribution”, “Supply Quality Standards”, “Frequency Variations”, “Voltage Levels”, “Harmonics and Flicker”, “Protection of the Distribution System”, “Equipment Short Circuit Rating”, “Equipment And Maintenance Standards”,and “Under Frequency Relays for Automatic Load Shedding”. .

Part 3 is the longest and it is divided into 7 sections listed below. Among the topics discussed are “Users Required Information to Discos”, “Maintenance Plans”, “Demand Estimation”, “Outage Planning”, “Demand Management and Load Shedding”, “Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)”, “Incident Reporting Procedure”, “Training”, “Preliminary Notice and Establishment of Test Panel”, “Final Test Programme”, “Record of Network Safety Precautions (RNSP)”, “Safety Precautions on High Voltage Equipment”, “Safety Precautions on High Voltage Equipment:, “Emergency Situations” and “Loss of Integrity of Safety Precautions”. .

Part 4: Distribution Construction and Maintenance (DCM)

Distribution Construction and Maintenance procedure is discussed in Part 4 which has only one section. Among the issues mentioned in this part are “Construction Practice”, “Maintenance” and “Off−Schedule Inspections”.
