PART II - NATIONAL INTEGRATED ELECTRICITY POLICY AND STRATEGIC IMPLEMENTATION PLAN
This Part includes three sections, namely Section 3, Section 4 and Section 5. Its content outlines the Federal Government of Nigeria's plan to develop an Integrated National Electricity Policy and Strategic Implementation Plan. Key points include:
1.
Policy Development
: The Ministry responsible for power will initiate the creation of this policy within one year, consulting with relevant authorities and stakeholders.
2.
Policy Components
: The policy will cover optimal resource use (coal, gas, renewables), rural electrification, public-private partnerships, renewable energy incentives, and overall development of the electricity infrastructure.
3.
Review Cycle
: The policy will be reviewed or revised at least every five years by the Federal Executive Council.
4.
Ministerial Roles
: The Minister will determine and monitor electricity policy, advise the government, promote local content, and issue policy directives on energy security and cross-border trading.
5.
Ministry's Responsibilities
: The ministry will coordinate broad sectoral policies, engage in public-private partnerships, research, participate in international relations, and recommend financial incentives for energy development.
6.
Renewable Energy Promotion
: The ministry will also promote renewable technologies and the use of conventional and renewable energy for power generation, while ensuring effective coordination across various government levels and sectors.
The overall aim is to guide and enhance the development and efficiency of Nigeria's electricity sector.
